All leaders start out as kids who want to change the world for the better。 This book gives short biographies of some famous leaders and how their childhood shaped their dreams。 There are sections about "democracy", "black lives", "our planet", and the "power of art"。 I found the writing to be extremely biased toward the political left, and I was disappointed that the biographies were not given in a balanced way。 This book basically reads like political propaganda, ignoring the real issues and re All leaders start out as kids who want to change the world for the better。 This book gives short biographies of some famous leaders and how their childhood shaped their dreams。 There are sections about "democracy", "black lives", "our planet", and the "power of art"。 I found the writing to be extremely biased toward the political left, and I was disappointed that the biographies were not given in a balanced way。 This book basically reads like political propaganda, ignoring the real issues and reinforcing political lies from the media。Each biography is about 10 pages long, and includes inspiring quotes from the famous person。 I just wish that this book would at least admit that some of these people have had controversial lives。 There should be a balance in the writing that doesn't hide any undesirable things, but still accepts and celebrates the good。There are cartoony illustrations on each page depicting scenes from the lives of each person。 The designs are so clever and attractive! This book encourages young people to change the world and speak up for what they believe in。 If only the book would present the true facts, and leave it to the reader to decide for themselves what to think about political issues, then I would have enjoyed it。 But they shove their own leftist agenda down your throat on every page。Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author in exchange for a free and honest review。 All the opinions stated here are my own true thoughts, and are not influenced by anyone。 。。。more

Y'all I'm not a fan of these type of books and I'm not a fan of Benazir Bhutto, so if you stop reading now, you'll pretty much already know what I'm going to say about this book。 I like that it is illustrated and the 16 people's lives read easily and smoothly, but I still don't know how they are chosen, and while the childhood snapshots may be "true," they are very rosy and one sided,, and the arc left the sources page blank so I can't even verify primary information。 I guess to me, if you pick Y'all I'm not a fan of these type of books and I'm not a fan of Benazir Bhutto, so if you stop reading now, you'll pretty much already know what I'm going to say about this book。 I like that it is illustrated and the 16 people's lives read easily and smoothly, but I still don't know how they are chosen, and while the childhood snapshots may be "true," they are very rosy and one sided,, and the arc left the sources page blank so I can't even verify primary information。 I guess to me, if you pick up a book like this you want to learn something about someone new perhaps and how they are chosen and what details are included need to be held to some sort of standard。 If you already know of these "trailblazers" and you are interested to know more about their childhoods, I'd suggest you go read their Wikipedia pages so that you can at least understand why many of these people are controversial。 I'm not saying being the first female this or the first female of color that or the first transgendered to do something aren't important and noteworthy, I just think I'm done with these random collections of elevation。 Sure I'll own that I'm additionally salty because politically I was never a fan of Ms。 Bhutto, and back in my journalist days, I did have lunch with her and a few friends, and I have interviewed her, and I gave her hours of my day to try and win me over as a person, and she just didn't。 Starting the book with her definitely didn't do the collection any favors and ending her section by tying her to Malala, made me sad that these are the only two amazing Muslim women from Pakistan that most in the west seem to know or want to celebrate。 。。。more

This is a great collection of short biographies。 Designed for kids, the pieces are not too long, illustrated, and contain great information and anecdotes about what these trailblazers were like as kids。
